Happy December!
Today we wanted to share a few of our favourite must-have products for the Winter season with our doodles! Having a handful of dependable essentials can really make a difference in being able to get out and enjoy the outdoors, despite the colder conditions.
Lets get into it...

For the four-legged ones...🐕🦺
1. Boots
We get asked all the time about booties for your dog, and the answer is YES!
If the temperature is -10c, they're wearing something on their paws.
Personally, we are big fans of the suspender boots from Canada Pooch.
Here are two GREAT reasons to get suspenders instead of individual boots:
1. They protect/cover some of their legs as well as the paw, so there's less snow clumps getting stuck in their hair
2. No losing a boot in snow drifts! Booties are an expensive item, and they can fall off and get lost so easily. Suspenders will never get lost.
Though it can be tricky trying to size your dog for these (and trust me, you want to measure and choose the size yourself instead of relying on their automatic converter), once you have them, they are a really helpful item in your closet.
They not only protect your pups paws from the cold elements, but the gravel and ice melt as well.
2. Sweater weather
Our dogs love being warm, but as you know if you have a doodle, haircuts come frequently and they don't always get to have the same thick layer of hair insulating them at all times. In comes these sweaters...
They aren't an insulated, down winter jacket, but they do provide them that extra layer of comfort and warmth they may be lacking as the temperature gets colder, and we love them for that! They've sure gotten a lot of wear out of them already, and they kinda look like little Christmas presents with four legs, haha.
*We got a size XL for our 20-27lbs dogs, and a 2XL for one's up to 35lbs.
3. Blowdryer
How does a blowdryer have anything to do with winter time, you ask?
Post walk ice balls & slow clumps, that's what!
This blowdryer is an absolute grooming staple for any household with a doodle or poodle, but it also comes in handy for quickly blasting off & melting down those ice/snow clumps that take AGES to naturally defrost!
Simply put your pup in the bathtub with a towel on the floor, and blowdry away.
Snow clumps gone -- and not because they melted over your entire house ;)
For the humans...💁♀️
1. Microspikes
Trust me when I say this is something EVERY Canadian should own.
Before owning a pair myself, walks in the winter months were a scary activity -- at any moment you could slip, fall and hurt yourself, even when you thought you were being careful.
With these slip on micro-spikes, you can put them on any footwear (runners, boots, etc) and walk confidently pretty much anywhere. We never go for walks without them now. They. Are. A. Life-saver!
2. Headlamp
As there is less daylight in these winter months, it can be hard to get a walk in while the sun is shining, but that doesn't need to stop you from getting some fresh air and exercise.
We absolutely swear by going for walks with a headlamp, both for our own visibility, and so cars are able to see us and our dogs as well.
Again, it's another little thing that gives you added confidence when the situation calls for it, and we personally LOVE using them.
We hope this gave you some helpful ideas to embarking on this winter season with your dood!
Do you have any other winter essentials you'd add to the list? We'd love to hear about them!
Till next time!
