Early grooming desensitization is a big deal in this house 🙌🏼

Doodles are a fairly high maintenance breed when it comes to grooming, needing regular haircuts, brushing, and coat upkeep throughout their lives, so it’s important that in these first few weeks of imprinting with us that they get started on the right foot!

By the time our puppies join their families, they have had countless baths, blowdrying, brushing, nail trimming, scissor & clipper trims around their eyes & sanitary area, all in gentle and intentional ways to create a positive association.

Ruger (one of our studs) saw the blow dryer come out and immediately planted himself beside me & the pups as we did this. Sooooo sweet ❤️🥹

This is Ernest from Kaia x Ruger! #thehonkytonkhowlers
He has what’s called a sable coat, which a lot of people have never had explained…let’s talk about it ✨

A sable dog coat features hairs with a light base color (gold, silver, tan, or gray) tipped with black, creating a shaded or “wolf-like” appearance. The amount of black tipping can range from light to dark, with the coat often appearing darker at birth and lightening with age!
The hairs are actually two toned, and when the hair is parted, the hair closer to the skin is lighter coloured, which for doodles means depending on hair length & haircut style, your dog’s “shade” can vary! Despite lightening as they age, the dark hairs usually remain in areas like their ears, tail, muzzle/forehead or along their back.
This is not the fading gene (common in poodles & poodle breeds) but a coat type all its own.
Pretty cool, huh?

New milestone unlocked:
First food!! 🤭

The pups begin goats milk around week 3 and soon move on to a gruel of raw food + goats milk to supplement mammas milk and help in the weaning process!

Gosh, were they eager for this new challenge! They took to it like a duck to water 😂 sometimes a little *too* enthusiastically 😉

Ever wondered what a day in the life with newborn puppies looks like? 🐾 come along & join us!

🧺 A good day starts with a clean pen!
We change the blankets, wash the pen walls, and put down new blankets (more times than you think, lol 😂)
🫧 Mamma Annie got a little spa day, making sure she’s all fresh & clean, especially after whelping her pups and caring for them so well!
🐟It’s very important that the mamma dog eat several frequent, nutirient dense meals a day for her as well as the growth & development of the pups! She is currently loving the addition of a can of sardines a day to help keep her coat & skin nice and healthy.
🛁 As you may or may not know, the mother dog stimulates their pups to pee & poop, and also cleans up after them. However, first time mamma’s sometimes need some help, so occasionally a bath is necessary to keep the pups clean! They seemed to really enjoy their little baths (I think they found the warm water soothing).
🧠 ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) is a series of moves you do with pups on a daily basis for the first 3 weeks to help stimulate brain development, help them tolerate stress better, get used to regular handling, and more!
⚖️ Puppies are weighed frequently in the first week or two of life, to make sure they’re gaining as they should! Drop your guess below of who you think is the biggest…🤭

Annie is officially counting down the last few days till delivery 🐾 🥳

Keep reading if you want to learn some fun facts about dog pregnancy!

✨ The mamma dog’s uterus is divided into two “horns”. The puppies end up divided between and spaced along them. That’s why sometimes one side looks bigger than the other (there are actually more puppies on that side)!

✨ Between days 36-42, the puppies don’t have any fur yet, but their skin is starting to build up the patterns of pigment which will give them their markings later. So cool!

✨ Around 45 days into the pregnancy, you can start to feel the puppies wiggling around and moving 🥹

✨ Sometimes the moms nibble and gently bite at their stomach when it happens — it’s like “hey, you! You’re being too crazy!” 😂

✨ When they start to enter the final stage of pregnancy, they start “nesting” a lot, which commonly looks like them digging and or ripping in their bed, under your bed or in other secluded or cozy places, trying to create a safe & comfortable place to have their puppies.

There is so much development that takes place in such a short period of time! 🤯 Truly a miracle.

You know the phrase
“You eat an elephant one bite at a time”? 🐘

You expand your puppy’s world one little training session at a time 🐾

This week we learned the ‘sit’ command! Though Ingrid already had an ingrained habit to be in a sit to receive food & affection, she didn’t know the verbal command, so we started from the beginning and she picked up so quickly!

Similar to teaching any command to a puppy, whether that’s “hurry up, go pee-pee” or “lay down”, the trick (because they don’t understand English) is to repeat the phrase or command as they are *DOING* the action, not before. They can then begin to associate that phrase with the action they are completing with their body.

Do this at every meal and they learn it even faster 👍🏼

Meet Ingrid, an 11-week-old Mini Aussiedoodle with the sweetest temperament.
She comes partially trained, vet checked, and with 1:1 breeder mentorship to support her transition.

Ingrid is already:
• Sleeping through the night in her kennel
• Litter-box trained
• Sitting politely for food and affection
• Comfortable with grooming
• Well-socialized with people and other dogs 
Partially trained = ready to settle in faster and fit right into family life!  
She’s confident, balanced, and ready to bring joy to her new family.

When you bring your puppy home, the only thing you’re gonna want to do is hug, hold, cuddle, and touch them.
They’re way too cute & loving them fills a huge part of our hearts as humans ❤️🥹

However, it’s not going to be good for them for you to wait to practice any kind of separation till a month (or several months) down the road.
They need to start immediately practicing healthy & “easy” amounts of separate / boundary time (even if you’re home).

✔️ Set up a pen (look up ‘x-pen’ on Amazon or at your local pet store) in the common room and practice times throughout the day where they get to play in the pen by themselves. This can be while you do work, cleaning, or cooking. This is to normalize them seeing you around but not always being the centre of attention. It also helps teach them to occupy themselves calmly, and not rely on constant stimulation in their environment.
✔️ Do kennel training.
Leave the kennel (with the door open) in the room they spend most of their time in. Do some exercises where you throw treats inside for them to retrieve, going in and out without a lot of pressure. Then work up to time spent inside with the door closed. Start with 5, 10, 15 minutes. Let them soothe themselves. Don’t talk, watch, and hang around just outside their reach, as that won’t help them settle. Once quiet, let them out. Practice again. Work up to longer durations.
Once they’re able to be inside with the door closed & not fight it, they can probably handle the bigger distraction of you being in the room.
✔️ Look up how to teach them ‘Place’ online (@packleaderdogs has a great one). We absolutely love this command and have found it monumental in teaching dogs how to relax & “turn off”. Definitely one of the biggest training lessons we’d recommend embarking on with your puppy, usually at around 12 weeks & on.
✔️Teach them to sit & wait for meals. A very simple but highly important skill that teaches your young puppy to be patient & wait nicely for what it wants. This translates to all other areas, waiting for treats, a fav toy, getting picked up, etc.

Hi 👋🏼 My name’s Ingrid, and I’m a 9.5 week old Mini Aussiedoodle 🧡

I am looking for a fantastic family to scoop me up & love on me (I promise to 100% reciprocate in the loving🤭)

I am the perfect size (humility is overrated), my OG humans @rockylegenddoodles say I will grow to be 25lbs big (that’s news to me, though I do feel like I can run faster than last week…strange 🧐).
I have the softest, most luxurious coat, it’s one of my favourite features, next to my eyes — they tell so many stories.
I am so smart (they tell me every day so I know it’s true), and learn new things quickly (like listening when I’m told “no” and sitting for meal time). I adore playing, being silly, and most of all, being anybody’s friend who will have me. I’m loyal and very in love with humans (and most dogs, so long as they let me sniff first 😉).

I look like a cartoon character, apparently (whatever that means). I’m really bright & happy and I’m ready to adventure with my forever party crew 🎉
