I don’t sleep the best when we have puppies 🐶 💤

No matter what’s been done in the day, my mind is so active ticking boxes, adding things to the to-do’s, clocking what I forgot and what I still need to do. The mental load is huge, if I’m honest.

And as much as I don’t enjoy that…

The truth is that it’s good to have things you try hard for.
It’s good to have responsibilities you take pride in stewarding well.
It’s good to care, to invest, to watch something grow that you “built” and truly have a connection to the mundane, every day details that many won’t ever see.
It’s good to have something that affects you, that makes you want to try and do better for. It’s good to have messes and “ordinary” things that you need to slow down the rest of life to take care of.

That is the important stuff.

How you show up & are intentional with the “little things” ❤️
Whether at times that’s your children, your spouse, yourself, a friend, your pup, or the stranger in line at the store.
It’s good to be present, to care about things, and to show up.

I may not sleep so well over the 8 weeks these little nuggets are with us, but I also wouldn’t do a thing differently.

It’s like my heart is running around in 7 little furry, four-legged bodies 🐾❤️

They are all excelling at the new milestones from week to week and loving 1:1 cuddle time with people (which let’s be real, is no surprise) 🩷

It’s the little things for me— from the coat variety and black tips, to who has longer ears vs shorter, whose eyes are the biggest and who has white dipped paws 🤭🐾 Hard to pick a favourite here, they all get my heart strings in different ways 🥹

I was also telling Bailey the other day that I think you guys gave us a unicorn puppy because she is just so good! For example, I bathed her the other day before coming here and she just stood there and let me do my thing and then decided that it was a good time to lie down and rest while I was blow drying her. it’s giving…first food 🤌🏼🤭

We’ve noticed over the years that one of the highlights to our community here is the puppies experiencing their first food at 3-4 weeks, so we of course had to include you in the fun! 🥛🐶🥰 It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time seeing it or your 100th, it’s always so cute to watch!

You usually have 2 (maybe 3) puppies that get it pretty quickly, and then the rest just lick the outside of the bowl the first 1-2 times 😅 they learn the new eating technique pretty quickly though, and despite the mess, it never gets old watching them figure it out.

Yep! 🙌🏼⛰️ these paws were made for walking!

Our dogs absolutely adore leaving the city and going on alpine adventures with us, whether a shorter trek or over a dozen kms 🐾
They always keep up and have a blast doing it, but the bonus is…
They don’t need to be hiking every day to have their general activity needs met.

They are companion dogs, and their fulfillment largely comes from having an owner/family who has time to invest in doing life WITH them. Whether that’s walks close to home, playing together in the yard, urban socialization & desensitization training for something new that will grow them (and strengthen your bond), or epic adventures out on the water or in the mountains, they love to be apart of it because YOU’RE THERE 🩷

We have some exciting news…🤭

These two cuties have officially honeymooned & if it was successful, we will be having adorable munchkins from them at the end of August!

These two produce the ultimate goofball companions, but don’t let their animated & silly “persona” fool ya, they’re little geniuses 😉 They are luxuriously fluffy, come in the classic oreo cookie colours (with the possibility of a tan sable or two) and are so playful, affectionate, and fun to be around. Families loved the pups from these two last year and we’re so excited to have a repeat this Fall! 🥳

Do you have a puppy between 3-4 months old? If so, they’re probably going through teething! 🦷🐶

Though it’s all pretty common, normal stuff, a lot of new puppy owners don’t realize how different behaviours, symptoms and such are all linked to the teething experience, and it can help to understand that 🫶🏼

Our favourite part about it? Those adult pearly whites are more rounded & thick, and that means goodbye to razor sharp needle teeth 😂👋🏼 We ain’t mad, lol.

Snapshots of life lately ✨

Life has been buuuzzzing over here, lots of outdoor adventures, doggy get-togethers and soaking up this long awaited warmth 🩷 we’ve also had two busy seasons & successful “honeymooning” with some of our mammas! 🤫 if all goes according to plan, that will mean summer babies 🐾🐶🥳 so exciting!

If you have a doodle, you’ve probably figured out that even in between haircuts at the groomers, your dog’s eyes get covered up with hair. I’m not sure if it’s the at-home groomer in me, but I hate to see their eyes covered up, and I’m sure it bothers them too! 🫣

Being able to do “basic maintenance” with a breed that has quite re-occurring and frequent grooming needs is pretty important! You don’t need to give your own haircuts or anything, but knowing how to at least clean up the hair around their eyes is a must, in my opinion.

✂️ REMEMBER, less is more. Don’t be too overeager with the amounts you’re taking off, and always comb everything forward in between your trimming ✂️

I remember sharing about this a few years back and the comment section being flooded with people *proudly* stating this would be so dangerous with their dog and it should just be left up to the professionals.
But here’s the thing: It’s not a flex to not be capable of something basic ✋🏼
You don’t need to feel bad if you aren’t able to achieve this YET, some dogs were not consistently grooming desensitized through puppyhood & beyond, however, it’s totally possible with practice. It’s the same as nail trimming, brushing, and ear cleaning, etc!
We do this with puppies as early as 5 weeks old, and continue till the day they join their families. Start with a metal comb and get them comfortable with the sensation of something by their eyes, muzzle, forehead, etc 🐾 While mentioning grooming exposure, we also really love the electric toothbrush (it mimics the sound and feeling of a buzzer) and you can even get those from your local dollar store 🙌🏼
